after the short hike to the Fox Glacier view, we decided to try a longer hike that led up the mountain to another view of the glacier. we had to cross a swinging bridge:

you could sort of see the glacier from the bridge:

we started off by letting finn walk. we figured it was good to let him get out of the back pack once in a while. we just had to live with the s-l-o-w progress:

finn found some sticks to bring along. for some reason he enjoyed hitting himself in the head with them. too bad this is a bit blurry:

poking tree stumps was also fun:

when we finally did put him in the backpack, he thought hitting us was great, so we had to take the sticks away. somewhere along the hike, we let him throw the sticks over a bridge into a stream.

here is one of the views of the glacier:

part way to the end of the trail, it started raining on us. so i didn't take as many pictures. this was the view at the end of the hike:

i think finn thought we were crazy for walking in the rain. we had rain jackets, so we weren't terribly soaked, just enough to be a little uncomfortable.

on the way back, finn started singing. it sort of went:

Oh wah ohh waah.

and basically just repeated that. it was actually sort of a lyrical little melody that he made up. a couple that we passed commented that we had a brought a little radio on our hike.
